My research interests include the promotion and conservation of avian communities through sustainable land use and the conservation of biodiversity as well as the importance of biodiversity in human well being. For my PhD work, I will be researching the effects of recreational trails on the community composition and productivity of the avian community around trails.

I am an avid bird watcher, but recently have been learning to identify both butterflies and dragonflies in the field. I'll do anything that gets me outside, especially in the winter: backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping, canoeing, cycling, etc... I also enjoy photography. My subjects have typically been wildlife, but I'll point my camera at anything that interests me (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bucephalabirder/).
